Our mission

Travel as a Path, Not Just a Trip. At Atisha Tours and Treks, we believe travel should not be rushed or superficial. Traveling through Bhutan is not about ticking places off a list; it is about slowing down, observing, listening, and feeling.

Much like Atisha’s teachings, our journeys are designed with intention.

About Atisha Tours and Treks

Meaning of Atisha

Atisha Dipankara Shrijnana (982–1054 CE) was a great Indian Buddhist master, scholar, and teacher whose teachings played a pivotal role in shaping Bhutanese and Himalayan Buddhism. He is most renowned for bringing clarity, compassion, and ethical discipline to spiritual practice through his famous text, A Lamp for the Path to Enlightenment.

Atisha’s teachings emphasized:

  • Compassion as the foundation of all actions

  • Mindfulness and intention in every step of life

  • Balance between wisdom and everyday living

  • The understanding that true happiness comes from within

These principles resonate deeply with Bhutan’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness, where success is not measured by wealth alone, but by well-being, culture, environment, and spiritual fulfillment.

By naming our company Atisha Tours and Treks, we honor this legacy. Just as Atisha illuminated the spiritual path for many, our aim is to illuminate the path of travel—transforming ordinary trips into meaningful journeys that leave lasting impressions long after travelers return home.

Bhutan is not merely a destination—it is an experience of the heart, a journey of the soul, and a meeting with a way of life that has remained deeply rooted in wisdom, compassion, and harmony with nature. Atisha Tours and Treks was founded with this very understanding: that travel, when done mindfully, has the power to transform, connect, and awaken.

We are a newly registered tour company in Bhutan, but our inspiration comes from centuries-old wisdom. Our name, Atisha, is not chosen by chance—it carries profound meaning and purpose, guiding everything we do and every journey we create.

Our Values

Mindfulness

Just as Atisha taught awareness in every action, we practice mindful tourism—being conscious of our impact on people, culture, and environment.

Authenticity

We present Bhutan as it truly is—honest, grounded, and deeply spiritual—without exaggeration or commercialization.

Sustainability

We support responsible tourism that protects Bhutan’s fragile ecosystems and preserves its cultural heritage for future generations.

Compassion & Respect

Every interaction—with guests, partners, porters, and communities—is guided by mutual respect and kindness.

Why choose us?

Because you seek depth, not just destinations

Bhutan is often described as the “Last Shangri-La,” but to us, it is a living classroom of Atisha’s teachings.

Here, compassion is practiced daily.
Here, mindfulness is woven into routine.
Here, happiness is not a pursuit—it is a way of living.

From majestic dzongs perched on ridges to humble village homes where butter tea is shared warmly with strangers, Bhutan reflects a worldview aligned with Atisha’s philosophy: simplicity, awareness, and kindness.

Our tours are designed to help travelers experience this alignment, not just learn about it.

Because you value meaningful experiences over rushed itineraries
Because you want to understand Bhutan beyond photographs
Because you believe travel can be transformative
